Dodge Repair: color of the power wire for a 2003 dodge ram 1500 fuel pump


Question
QUESTION: Do you happen to know which wire on the plug on top of the fuel pump is the hot wire to turn the fuel pump on
The plug has four wires on it
2 are blue with black stripes
1 is green with white strip
1 is solid black
The two blues are in the middle of the plug
The black one is on the left side of plug
The green one is on the right side of the plug
The reason I am asking is because I can not get any power

To the fuel pump to make it come on and put fuel
When I turn the key on for power the gas gauge will work so I know there
Is power going to that part
But I don't want to go cutting wires to see which is which
I have already replaced all the relays and fuse"s that have anything to do with the fuel pump
And still nothing

ANSWER: Hi Russell,
The outer two wires (green/white and black) are for the pump motor, the green/white carries the 12v from the fuel pump relay and the black is the return wire to chassis ground. The other two wires are for the fuel level sensor.
Now be aware that there is a built-in fire safety design to prevent fires:
When you first turn the key to run the pump gets 12v for just a second. Then only when you crank the engine over will it get the 12v again and that continues if the engine runs on its own. But if the engine stops OR it won't start because one of the engine rotational sensors has gone bad so the control module thinks the engine is not turning over so it won't provide power to the pump motor.
So check to listen for the fuel pump to run for that second or so when you turn the key to the run position. Once you start cranking it over the noise level may be too loud to tell if the pump is running or not, but you could put a voltmeter between the green/white and the black and that will tell you if it still is getting 12v. If not, then I suspect one of the rotational sensors is bad.
Do a fault code readout using the ignition key; "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window in the cluster to see if the mileage reading changes to show any 4-digit numbers preceded by a P. If it is 0320 then that is the crankshaft sensor, and 0340 is the camshaft sensor fault number.

QUESTION: Hey Roland it me again Russell
I have not yet ran the wire for the fuel pump to see if it will work
I was thinking about the question about the sensors
I have replaced the crank position sensor but I haven't replaced the cam position sensor as of yet
I was going to do that next
But I have another question
I have done the on off on off on thing with the key it shows no codes
But the light on the left of the dash were the light that looks like a engine
Flashes code 10
Code 11
Code 12
Or it may just me code 12 because it does a funny blink at the end when it's flashing
Could you please check one of your manuals to see if that is even possible
The Hayes manual I have does not have that in it only the number trouble code's

Hi Russell,
The check engine light is the other way codes appear but I thought that by '03 that had been changed to actually show a number in the odometer window. Do you still have the '03 engine controller in truck or was it replaced with an older unit?
You do the same key routine. Then watch that light to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the process to be sure of an accurate set of flash counts. Tell me the counts in order of appearance.
