Motorcycle Repair: clutch problem, clutch pack, center hub

Question
I have an 83 VF750F with a clutch problem.  Rebuilt the master cyl movement at the slave is about 3/32 of an inch but clutch will not disengage.  Bike sat for 7 years.  Pulled side case appears the 3/32 is not enough or there is something else wrong.  Was going to pull clutch apart but could only take center hub off, appears I need a special tool to remove the plates.  What can I do next?  I appreciate your time, Bill

Answer
Bill, it is likely that the clutch pack is stuck together from sitting so long. You will have to spring for the hub tool, which should be available from Motion-Pro dealers to get the clutch pack apart.

Master cylinder rebuilds often result in trapped air in the hydraulic line which will aggravate your problems. Be sure that all air is purged from the line and fittings, so that full travel is achieved at the slave cylinder. I would rebuild the slave cylinder as well, as long as you have everything apart.
