Motorcycle Repair: 1989 fzr 600 no spark issue, jumper cables, 1989 fzr 600

Question
i have a 89 fzr 600 and i had been riding it for a while and decided to park it the battery died and when i decided to take it for a spin after sitting for about three months it started fine with a little assistance from the jumper cables but when i took it around the block it was running like crap i figured it could be the gas but when i pulled in the driveway i put the kickstand down in first gear and it died i tried to start it back up. it cranked over but didn't run i checked it for spark and it had no spark can you please help me diagnose this problem

Answer
John, not really my brand or type of motorcycle. If you jumped the battery you probably damaged it and the system isn't getting sufficient reliable voltage to run the ignition.

Putting the sidestand down, in gear, will kill the engine due to safety devices built into most bikes.

Install a fresh battery, replace the fuel, put the sidestand up and try it again.

After 3 months the fuel may have separated and plugged up the idle jets, so after you do the above, you may still need to pull the carb rack and clean the idle jets, main jets and float bowl.
