Motorcycle Repair: harley race tuner, harley race, air cleaner

i just purchased 2010 fat boy lo,i want to put louder pipes on it,the dealer says i have to purchase the race tuner and a air cleaner upgrade.i have a friend that has a 2008 street glide with almost the same motor he changed his pipes without tuner and drove it 20000 miles without any problem,any advice would be appreciated  thanks,      bill

You dont have to get the race tuner or the air cleaner. One thing you need to remember, adding free flowing pipes will lean your bike a little. Your bike came from the factory already somewhat lean so it could pass EPA. If you add the tuner it will richen it back up and run better, but you dont have to.
