Motorcycle Repair: Honda XL175, model xl, stock ignition

Question
Do you know of an electronic ignition conversion for my 1975 Honda XL175 ?

Answer
Mike, the bike was sold for five years in small quantities and it doesn't have really high-rev capabilities. As long as the spark advancer is kept lubed up properly, the points kept clean and gapped correctly, set to fire on the F mark, then the stock ignition system is totally sufficient for this bike in stock form. Keep the valves adjusted, change the oil regularly and ride it as-is.

If you had a lot of time and a fair amount of $$, you might be able to adapt something from the later model XL/XR200 singles, which used a CDI ignition setup. It would be complicated to run, though, as you would have to adapt the flywheel, pulser coil, wiring harness, pulser plate on the head and the trigger wheel on the end of the camshaft to make it all work.

Due to lack of performance of this model no one ever took the time to develop an off the shelf E-ignition system for this model.
