Motorcycle Repair: remove forks, fender bolt, triple trees

Question
I just bought a 2006 street bob and the upper forks are bent.  Can you tell step by step instructions on how to remove the forks and how to separate upper and lower forks.  I am mechanically incline but never worked on bikes.  The lower fork is broken where the fender attaches (still attached to fender and bolt.  Can this be welded?  It is the eye that the fender bolt goes through.

Answer
Jack the bike up and remove the fender, brake caliber and wheel. On the fork you will see a screw on the side. Remove it and drain the fork oil. On the underside of the fork is a bolt which holds the upper and lower together. Remove it and slide the lower off. Go to the top of the upper fork and remove the top cap. It is under tension from the spring. Look at the triple trees and you will see bolts that hold the upper fork to the trees. remove them and the upper forks will slide out. Put them back together in reverse and add fork oil.
As to the welding, the lowers are alum. so you would have to find someone that can weld it, but it can be done
Good luck and happy riding
