Question

ANSWER: When you say you have intermitent pumping, what do you mean? did you put a pressure gage on the pump? Do you have good return back into the oil tank? the problems you stated above, were they there before changing the gaskets?

QUESTION: oil pumps back into tank for a couple seconds then almost stops after that and the other problems started after he changed gaskets and adjusted the valves and push rods.i did find he had the points gapped at about 55 instead of 18 where i think they should be would that of caused some of the other problems.the problem with the motor idling back down normally   after u rev it up also started after the fact.thanks again

Answer
Since this started when you had the gaskets replaced, it sounds like the oil pump is not working properly. It needs to be taken off and checked. No oil pumping back means that no oil is pumping in. You should be getting a oil flow the whole time the bike is running. You can check the oil lines and make sure one is not pinched off.
You are correct, the points should be at .018 or the bike wont run correctly.
Good luck and happy riding
