Motorcycle Repair: head /valves repair, piston rings, valve seats

Question
63 flh. recently got the bike running. bin sitting for some time. mechanically only had oil pump issues. any ways put some two hundred miles and smoke (blue-ish) coming from front exhaust. took it apart and  cylinders. pistons/all checked out good except the piston rings. went to check prices on valves/guides and was asked on the size I wanted to purchase. My question ....how do I figure out on what size of valves. Intake/ exhaust .Also there  is a reputable machine shop near my place or shall I go with my bike shop (much farther away)

Answer
Since you are probably working with a panhead motor the valves you need are part number (intake) 18071-48 and the (exhasut) is 18082-57. the guides you would need are the ones for panheads 1948-1979.  On having a machine shop do the work you would have to find out if then can hone the valve seats after the guides are installed and if they can hone the guides for the valves
Good luck and happy riding
