Motorcycle Repair: Primary chain, synthetic oil, electra

Question
I have a 2002 Electra glide classic.  I am told I should adjust the primary chain when it starts to rattle.  Where is this chain and how do i adjust it?  Also what do you think about putting harley synthetic oil in the engine and trans and primary case housing or using amsoil?

Answer
You should check your primary chain about every 3000 miles. the chain is located inside the primary. There is an inspection plate in the center of the primary cover. With the bike sitting upright, remove the cover. You should have about 1/2 inch play in the chain. If you have to adjust it, there is a 9/16 nut in the center. Loosen it and slide the adjuster upward to tighten.
Either oil is a good oil and will help the bike run a little cooler
Good luck and happy riding
