Motorcycle Repair: 1993 FLHR completely dies for 15 seconds, flhr, wiring connections

Question
Mike,
I have a 1993 FLHR with the hard bags and all.  My bike dies on me intermittenly, one time I was on a highway for a half hour and 75 mph and it was fine and at the bottom of the exit i took off and then it just completely dies light on instrument panel and all.  I shut it off for 15 seconds turned it back on and started up and rode fine for the rest of the day.  another time I was in a funeral percesion and it was fine in second gear and then when i went to open it up to merge onto a highway it cut off completely again lights and all turned off for 15 seconds turned back on and away i went.  It leads me to believe it has something to do with over heating but I really have no idea.  If you can help me i would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks for your time.

Answer
Since your lights and everything are going off then you are losing power. I would start by checking the cables on the battery, at both ends. If that is not the problem then check your wiring connections from the battery to the ignition switch.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
