Motorcycle Repair: morelli fuel injection, delphi system, harley dealer

Question
QUESTION:  I have a '97 road king with the morelli fuel injection which is giving me fits. It
doesn't idle right, at times the rpm at idling jumps way up, when accelerating
the bikes misses, back fires and generally lacks power at times then at other
times it run runs normal. When decelerating it "pops" out the exhaust. My
question is this, is it possible to ever get this poor fuel system working
correctly or should I spring for the $3500 and get the delphi system installed
on my bike? My local Harley dealer leads me to believe that the Delphi system
is my only hope of ever having a reliable bike.

  Thanks!

ANSWER: Pull the plugs and let me know what color they are

QUESTION:   Hi Mike,

Both front and rear plugs are a light brown color. Perhaps you could say
they are a light gray. Both cylinders are running lean it seems. I understand
this system was replaced by Harley after a short time and I don't want to
spend the money to try to fix it if it isn't possible to keep it running right for
any length of time. I don't want to pay to have it fixed and have to do it again
in 5000 miles or so. Any advice would be appreciated. I've road shovelheads
or panheads my entire life and this is my first evo and my first experience
with fuel injection so I am completely in the dark here. Thanks for your help!

Answer
I use a different approach to remapping the ECM. You should be able to remapp your bike. If you go the technoresearch web site you can locate a shop close to you which should be able to remapp your bike without problem. It will cost you alot less than changing the computer on your bike
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
