Motorcycle Repair: 1983 Honda 750C Shadow, honda vt750c, cmsnl

Question
I have no spark @ the plugs and the fuel pump works if connected straight to the battery but not thru the bike system. Do I have two different problems or are they related. Any idea's to remedy the problem(s).

Answer
Alan... here is your parts list illustrations:

http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-vt750c-shadow-750-1983-us_model791/partslist/F++18.ht...  there is a fuel cut relay here. Normally Honda will run the pump for a few seconds to top off the carbs, then shut down until the engine is running again. If you have dry carbs, you may have to cycle the switch on and off a few times to refill them. If the relay is defective, however, then the fuel pump may not run at all.

You do need to have a fully charged battery to run the electrics, but not the ignition system, which is CDI.
http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-vt750c-shadow-750-1983-us_model791/partslist/E++08.ht... you have twin pulse generators here. Make sure that the wiring connector is clean and tight.

http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-vt750c-shadow-750-1983-us_model791/partslist/F++26.ht...  twin spark units on the top of the rear fender control the spark and timing to the coils.

If you have NO spark on either coil, then I would start with the KILL switch at the handlebars first, then check all of the other wiring connectors in the chassis.

It appears that you have two separate issues.
