Motorcycle Repair: triple tree and bar alignment, triple trees, mechanical knowledge

Question
Hi. I have an 07 fatboy with aftermarket Burleigh bars. When riding the bike the bars and top tree don't look aligned. The right end of the bar is lower and back more than the left. These bars have built on risers and are in perfect condition. I have tried loosening the top and bottom trees as well as the clamp near the top bearing and tried pulling them around to straighten things up a bit.but nothing moved is the shaft from the bottom tree splined onto the top tree or does it just clamp to a machined flat or tapered surface.what are your suggestions to align everything up? any site with pictures would help too. Thanks
ps i have no service manual at this stage but have good mechanical knowledge.

Answer
The forks align the top triple trees with the bottom. If your bars are not straight, then its either the forks a tweeked a little and not straight or the bars are bent a little. You can check the forks with a long straight edge. laying it by the rear tire towards the front, the straight edge should touch the front tire. I use 8 foot floresent bulbs to do this.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
