Motorcycle Repair: Honda Magna V45 Help!, 1982 honda magna, speed jets

Question
Hi,

I inherited my dads old 1982 Honda Magna V45 back in 2003 when he bought a new Harley. The bikes in good condition, but has been garaged for several years since I wasn't riding then. I took it to a shop that did carb work, and synching as well as adjusting the float bowls. It ran pretty good after that but it was starting to get into the winter months so was prepped for storage.

This spring when I brought it out, put the battery back in, etc. I put the choke on to fire it up it comes to life. After having it warmed up I try to back the choke off and it keeps slowing until it stalls out. I basically have to leave the choke on in order to keep the bike running. When I tried to give it gas as well when it was running, it seemed to bog down, and sounded like it may be pulling air in because if I don't release the throttle immediately, it will stall out from giving it gas.

I don't know if it could be a possible vacuum leak, or bad gas or the 600$ I spent for the shop work was crap and I need to blow the carbs out again. If you or anyone can help me pinpoint my problem, it would be much appreciated

Answer
You aren't going to like my answer but the carbs need to be cleaned again.  Over the winter the fuel varnished up and plugged the low speed jets. Fuel will go bad in just a couple of months in a carb so when you winterize the bike you should alway put stabilizer in the fuel and run it through the carbs or make a habit of draining the carbs before storing it for any length of time.
