Question
Motorcycle Repair: Petcock cleaning solvent / rebuild advice?, maintenance question, adivce
Petcock 1972 CL175 K6.
Working on restoring a 1972 cL175 K6. Almost finished. I now need to clean the petcock. Manuals say, " soak parts in solvent" but never mentions what the solvent is or which parts to soak... Can you fill me in on these specifics? Any other adivce on inspection, rebuilding would be appreciated. This is my first restoration project and its going well. (I know your description doesn't mention you working on the older Hondas, but felt this was more of a basic/general mcycle maintenance question.) Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer
I normally use parts cleaner or diesel to clean these old fuel taps.  The old fuel can go to lacquer, and is diifcult to remove.  Yamaha has a good fuel cleaner that I have also used.  Sometimes the only way is to dissassemble though.

Good luck,  Jan
