Motorcycle Repair: 2004 v star 650 classic, vent hoses, fuel stabilizer

Question
I HAVE A 2004 YAMAHA V STAR 650 CLASSIC WITH A FUEL LEAK UNDER THE AIR CLEANER FROM A HOSE LEADING NOWHERE.WHAT IS THIS HOSE AND WHY IS IN LEAKING

Answer
Well, Brian, it isn't a Honda question, but I think I can give a good guess about the source.

Usually hoses that go nowhere are vent hoses for the carburetor float bowl vent tube. Gas only comes out when the float valve in the carburetor isn't closing off completely. Usually that is due to the bike being left unattended for long periods of time and lack of use of fuel stabilizer in the tank.

Old gas in the float bowl congeals, evaporates leaving some gummy solids that make parts stick together or keep them apart. If it is pouring out a lot, then you will need to either take the carb off for service or transport the whole machine to an expert service department for cleaning and evaluation of the situation.

Go to sites like www.cmsnl.com and look up the parts illustrations to see what and where these components are located and look like.
