Motorcycle Repair: Honda CB125 Turn Signals, 12 volt, metal strip

Question
I have an excellent condition 1984 Honda CB125 (first year of 12 volt) with new battery. Turn signals work good when bike first started then get slower and quit working after bike runs a couple minutes. Headlight stays bright. Thanks...Albert

Answer
Check the battery voltage, if it's dropping it would explain the loss of turn signals.  The flasher needs a certain level of current to go through it to generate heat.  When the bi-metal strip heats up it opens the circuit.  If there's too much resistance or the voltage is low, it won't heat up enough to open the circuit.  If it's not a battery charging problem, you may have dirty bulb sockets, or loose terminals in the wiring harness to the flasher or turn signals
