Motorcycle Repair: Changing Slip-ons, new bikes, jet issues

Question
Mike: I have a 2002 FXDL, stage I, and I want to change the stock slip-ons, they are really quite. I started riding again after 42 years so I could ride with my son to Sturgis, as that is what he wanted. (Which we did) Well as you know, bikes have changed, since the early 60's. The question I have: What is the max. baffle size (Slip-ons)can I install without having to do tuning adjustments or possible jet issues? They want me to sound like a HD....and I agree.  Thanks for helping us out here by volunteering your time.  Arnold

Answer
One thing you have to remember on the new bikes is they come from the factory a little lean to pass EPA. Adding a high flow air filter and higher flowing pipes is you make the bike leaner. So you would need to rejett. Your best bet is to get a Dyna-jet kit. It will give you the jets you need and will richen the bike back up. You can instll it yourself as it has great directions
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
