Motorcycle Repair: Nightster clutch LOTS of friction., clutch lever, clutch cable

Question
I have an 08 Nightster. I have gotten all the regular maintenance except the 5k and I am at 5k. I don't really have the $300 for the work. When my bike is IN gear and I have the clutch pulled all the way in there is a LOT of friction. Can I have the dealership ONLY adjust the clutch and not pay them $300 to tighten bolts and change my fluids? (which I just did yesterday). Help....and thanks!

I'm decently mechanical, can you explain how to adjust it?

Answer
You can adjust the clutch yourselfwithout a problem. Loosen the clutch cable so there is some play in the clutch lever. With the bike sitting upright remove the large derby cover at the back of the primary cover. Loosen the locknut in the center of the clutch and turn the adjuster outward a few turns. Now turn it back inward, just until it bottoms and then back out abut 1/8 turn. Now adjust the cable so that you have about 1/8 inch play in the clutch lever and your set
Good luck and happy riding
