Motorcycle Repair: Upper Fork Legs FXDWG Wont come off, fork legs, brake calipers

Question
Hi,

I'm trying to remove the fork legs from my '94 fxdwg in order to get them polished and replace all seals etc.

Problem is that they wont come off. I think because its too cold that the fork brackets have shrunk a little. Tried warming them up, but the still wont budge. Any advice?

Thanx,

Answer
I think the problem you're having is the fork tubes are stuck in the triple trees. If you're just going to polish and replace seals you could do that with out taking the tubes off since there already chromed. You would just need to remove the lower leg from the tube which you'd have to do on the bench to change the seals and while you've got the lower leg removed from the tube you could polish it. But if you're still wanting to remove them from the triple trees first remove front tire and brake calipers then insure to loosen the lower tree pinch bolts then remove the tube plug on the top of the tube carefully as this is spring loaded. Spray some WD40 on all 4 triple tree clamp areas and turn them out if they won't budge you might try a soft strap wrench but be careful not to scratch the tubes. Hope this helps you.
