Motorcycle Repair: Electrical problems nighthawk 1991 750cc, electrical response, bike stand

Question
I have a 1991 nighthawk 750 that I bought 4 months ago. In december I left
the bike stand for 1 month while at sea. the battery lost enough power so
that it could not start. However with a mobile jump start unit it did start
without problems. I used the unit several times a day for 2 weeks (no money
for a new battery). I noticed that the key had to be positioned more carefully
when I started the bike over the last week. Yesterday the bike did not light up
at all. I presumed the battery was beyond hope and bought a new one. I
charged it as directed and connected it to the bike. There is still no lights
anywhere on the bike and appears to not be getting any charge. I have
checked the fuses and they are good. I have checked the battery and the
charge is good. I have tried manipulating the key to see if I could get any
light confirmation. can you tell me if this is something I should try to fix or if
it is time to give up and take it to a shop.
Thanks for the advice

Answer
I do not work on Hondas so I don't know the color code for the wiring harness at the key switch. I was wondering if the key switch went bad. I'd try to jumper the switch to see if I could get some sort of electrical response.[lights to come on.]But I don't know which wires to jump cause I'm not familiar with that harness and the color code. Sorry hope this helps you.
