Motorcycle Repair: pistons, honda shop, main bearing

I have a 1971 honda cb750 it has been sitting for about twenty years my neighbor gave it 5to me. I am having a hard time  getting to the main bearing and cap and taking off the head any suggestion thanks

Bruce, I hope you have pulled the motor from the frame! You can't do any kind of top end work or work on the bottom end with the motor in the chassis. Beware... Motor weighs about 176 lbs, so get help. Bike engines often seize from sitting for many years, due to moisture condensing inside the cylinders, rusting the pistons to the cylinder walls. Find some Kroil or Seafoam spray products and pray that they will loosen the rusted parts before you destroy something during disassembly.

Sites like www.cmsnl.com have online microfiche illustrations from Honda, showing exploded parts views of most of the bike. Not the same as a good shop manual, but it is helpful.

You have to split the cases, to get to the bottom end parts, after you remove both side covers and pull the clutch and generator parts. There are nuts under the rubber plugs on the cylinder head, after you get the valve cover off.

Better get a good Honda shop manual to follow along with...
