Motorcycle Repair: CB350 Oil Leak, crank case, shaft seal

Question
Hey There, I have a 72 CB 350 with a massive leak. The oil is spewing from where the clutch rod goes into the main shaft, in the left crank case. oil bearly comes out when the motor is idleing. but when i engage the clutch and cruise around, it spits oil all over my chain and rear tire!! i know there is one big round seal where the rod first enters the main shaft, is that the only one to replace? and does that really hold all the oil back.. because it is leaking excesively. Thanks for the Help!

Answer
Bobby, there are three seals on that side of the engine in that area....the clutch rod seal, the countershaft seal and the shifter shaft seal.  Any or all of them could be leaking. If you can't tell which seal is leaking, I'd recommend you replace all of them.  To do it right, it required pulling the bottom crank case off so it makes sense to replace all of them at the same time if you're going to that much effort.
