Motorcycle Repair: 75 Sportster--Needle bearing stuck, propane torch, needle bearing

Hey guys need suggestions for getting the needle bearing out in the starter housing...the bottom (outside) broke off like a cap.. it was wore around the edge evidentally...but now the cylinder shaped hull is still stuckin the housing.

what to do?..tried punching it through but it just bends the edge..thought of maybe sawing a line in it and bending it out?...what ya think?

This is outside of my expertise but if the housing is aluminum, I'd take a propane torch and heat the back side of the housing.  Once it gets to about 350 deg, the steel bearing will drop out.  Just be careful not to get it too hot or you could melt the cover.
