Motorcycle Repair: 87 vt800 shadow, regulator rectifier, yellow wires

I just bought this bike last summer, I wanted to know what would it be that the battery isnt charging? Is it the voltage regulator or the stator? it runs good when the battery is charged. When i let off of the gas it back fires a little bit? any awnsers? thanx Chad

Chad, I've answered this question a few times so you make want to scan the achieves if you want more information.  There are only three parts to that charging system. The stator, the flywheel and the voltage regulator/rectifier.  You can check the stator by measuring the resistance between the three yellow wires.  They should have equal resistance between them and no continuity to ground.  If that checks out good, it's probably a regulator. rectifier gone bad.
