Motorcycle Repair: Nighthawk 700S starting problem;, honda nighthawk 700s, 1984 honda nighthawk

Question
Hi Jack;
I have a 1984 Honda Nighthawk 700S that won't start. It has been running fine for 2 years and recently wouldn't start after shutting it off. The battery is new and all connections seem to be fine but when I hit the start button the headlight dims right down and there is nothing. I jumped the selonoid and the starter turns the engine over but it does not start. Sounds like it's not getting any spark because it wouldn't even jump start for me. I changed the coils with no luck and was wondering if it could be the ignitor. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much, Tom

Answer
Hi Tom...

Before ya go investing hundreds of dollars in a new CDI box, I would test the run switch and starter button first. Also, if your bike is equipped with a kickstand switch and clutch switch, check those too. It's far more likely that the problem is due to one of these items. Hope this helps!!!
