Motorcycle Repair: 1984 gl1200i, running on three, compression check

Question
I bought this bike a couple of years ago the engine ran smooth but not as glass. Maintaince has been kept up but last week i noticed under 3000 rpm she had a skip intermittently fuel level was getting low so i fueled up hoping that skip would clear up which it did not. In turn progressively got worse to no power on #1 and #2 piston. I removed lower fairing and chrome to single out wires to determined cause. I removed carb assm. and inspected but found no trash reinstalled. Now only #1 has no power. I have spark, Dry spark plug, good compression on all cylinder's and timing is on. I have not test driven her but she sounds like before problem started i know she wasn't running on three when i bought her what can i do to get power to #1 and sync

Answer
The problem sounds like a carburation problem.  Try opening the bowl drain screw on that carb and make sure it has a fuel in it.  Let it drain for a while to be sure that it has the right amount in the bowl. If it does, try applying a little choke when the bike is running and see if you can get that cylinder to fire.  If it clears up with a little choke, you're looking for a fuel deliver problem with plugged jets or passages in the carb body.  Have you checked the valve adjustment?  You could do a quick compression check and make sure it's not something more serious.
