Motorcycle Repair: Crankcase breathe oil spillout, chain oiler, crankcase breather

Question
I saw an answer to this problem once before, but need further help.  I have a
1976 flh. I have been working on getting it running, it has been sitting about
9 years due to my medical problems.  So,  when I tried to start it yesterday,  it
didn't start,  but did puke out a bunch of oi through the crankcase breather
filter.  A few weeks ago this happened, but when cranking it over the
following day, it didn't happen.  I bought a new ball and spring for the check
valve.  I followed one suggestion that said to also leave the old ball in, on top
of the new spring to add pressure to the new check ball (was this a good
idea?).  The engine is installed so I don't know how to clean up the seat.  I did
turn the adjuster screw in so it should have seated "closed".  I don't think I
need the rear chain oiler as the bike was fitted with a new "o" ring  chain,
before it sat for years.  Another  thing;  when I first bought the bike and
didn't know much about them, the breather hose had a bolt clamped into the
end of it.  The bike ran great like this virtually no oil drips,  but I didn't put
many miles on it this way.  I suspect that today, when I go to work on getting
it started, it wont spill out oil, since it didn't the last time I went back to it the
next day.  But, I can't have this happen every time  let the bike sit for a while
between rides.  Please help me to get this figurd out.  I feel I'm reallly close to
be riding again.
Thanks a lot Mike,

Answer
Dont put two balls in, that will only cause problems. take the old ball and install it. Take a punch  and hammer and tap the ball and that should reseat it. Not sure what sdjuster screw you are talking about, since there is no adjuster screw for the ball and spring, unless you are refering to the chain oiler.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
