Motorcycle Repair: rear wheel resistance, bad wheel bearing, yamaha 1980

Question
Hi, I just bought a Yamaha 1980 xs 850 midnight special (shaft drive). I haven't begun to work on it, but when the seller and I moved the bike, the rear wheel was so tight(?) it was like the bike was in gear. The seller told me he removed the wheel to clean the rim and replaced it. We loosened the bleeder on the caliper thinking it might be frozen, but no change. If the caliper is not locked down, what might cause such resistance on the wheel? Thanks for your time, Ron

Answer
hello ron, i think it could be a bad wheel bearing ,or to be sure its not the caliper i would remove the caliper and try pushing it again if its still hard i woould think possibbly the clutch is stuck.or if your model is a ahaft drive i believe that your splines  on the rear shaft are either damaged or not correctly installed.I hope i have been helpfull let me know .im here for you sorry so late i was out of state for a death in the family. god bless.p.s please leave feedback for me.
Thanks,

Mitch
