Motorcycle Repair: Carb Sync, air fuel ratio, pod filters

Question
Hi Rich,
Is there a semi accurate method to "bench sync" the carbs on this K8 until I can locate a manometer? The reason I think they are out of sync is because of clutch rattle and rough idle. Bike runs very strong, little boggy from idle to 1/8 throttle.Pulls strong to red-line, which I dont do often. How detrimental is this to longevity of my engine with 30k on the clock, O/C & filter with synthetic @ 1k intervals. Valves adjusted and cam chain  serviced regular. Bike is modded with 4-1, pod filters, 120 mains, needle stock , carbs clean.
Thanks,
George Haile

Answer
Clutch rattle is pretty common on those motors even with sync'ed carbs.  I've never figured out what causes the rattle.  It never seems to cause any problem but it sounds terrible.  I don't know of any reliable method without gages.

Depending on how far out the carbs are, you could have no impact to scoring in one of the pistons if it's doing all the work. The bogging off idle is probably, a lean idle air mixture or mid-range leaning of the air fuel ratio.  Try raising the needles one groove in the slides. The air filters and exhaust let the engine breathe better and it's running too lean.
