Motorcycle Repair: clutch adjustment...62 panhead kicker, clutch adjustment, panhead

Question
when adjusting the clutch it either is dragging to where the trans won't engage, and if it does, it clunks into gear and the bike wants to walk..or if adjusted to where the trans goes into gear, I'm getting slippage when I go to kick it. clutch parts are new and correct. the pressure plate bolts are at spec and i backed off the cable , then adjusted the clutch itself via the derby. can't seem to find the middle ground. any suggestions? perhaps I'm wrong on the proceedure, or the pressure plate bolts aren't within specs. driving me nuts. thanks.

Answer
Heres hou I do the adjustment. Make sure your pressure plate on clutch is 1 3/16 from the back of the plate to the front of the pressue plate. Now loosen the cable so there is slack in it. At the clutch turn the adjuster screw inward just until it touches and then back out 1/8 of a turn. Go to the cable and adjust  the cable so there is 1/8 inch play in the handle
Good luck and happy riding
