Motorcycle Repair: 1987 Goldwing rough running, intermittent problems, gl1200

Question
Rich, I have a 1987 gl1200. About every other ride I take, the bike runs rough after about 15 minutes. Almost like it is mis-firing. It usually did it for about a minute or two then run fine. The other day the bike died on the road. It was as if there was no ignition. After about a couple of minutes, the bike stared fine. I drove it for about 30 miles then it started running rough again. Please advise.

Answer
I hate intermittent problems...they seem to take forever to find.  Yours could be a fuel problem or a ignition problem.  When it starts to run rough try applying a little choke.  If it clears up and runs better it's a fuel problem.  If it doesn't it probably an ignition problem.  Once you try this get back with me and I'll see if I can't help you trouble shoot the problem

Regards,
Rich
