Motorcycle Repair: Intermittent spark, jumper wire, xlh

Question
QUESTION: I have an 85 XLH that has intermittent spark and it will spit thru the carb occasionally. I installed a new electronic ignition and the problem persists. I've gone over the wiring looking for shorts and cleaned up the start switch. Anything else I should be looking at?

ANSWER: How do you know you have a intermittent spark?

QUESTION: Pulled both plugs and turned motor over to check for spark

Answer
The only thing that would cause your problem is a loss of power to the coil, if you are loosing spark. Check your coul with a test light. Alos, you can run a jumper wire from the battery to the hot side of the coil and run the bike. If it is still running the same, then its not the ignition system.
Spitting through the carb canalso be caused from a leaking intake manifold
Good luck and happy riding
