Motorcycle Repair: 02 road king valve adjustment, pushrod, valve adjustment

Question
I keep hearing a clatter when I ride my 02 road king, I put new adjustable push rods in but this did not get rid of the sound. I have 50,000 miles on this bike is there a way to adjust the valves? P.S I have a 04 wide glide and I do not hear nose from it. both are fuel injected.

Answer
If you have adjustable pushrods you can adjust the valves. Jack the bike up and remove the spark plugs. Put the bike in 5th gear. remvoe the clips ont he pushrod covers and slide the covers out of the way. Rotate the motor until the front exhaust is closed, or all the way down. Now loosen the locknut on the pushrod and tighten the pushrod, or make it longer until its tight. Let it sit for about 15 minutes so it will bleed. Go back and check the pushrod with your fingers. If you can turn it with your fingers then tighten it again and let it sit. What you are trying to do is bleed all the oil out. Keep doing this until you can turn it. Then, turn it back just until you can turn it with yoru fingers and then go another 1 1/12 turns and lock the nut. Do this to each one and you have then adjusted
Good luck and happy riding
