Motorcycle Repair: 1983 vt750c fuel pump relay, fuel pump relay, fuel lines

Question
i have checked the flow rate on this pump by use of a diode and some wire. i am showing about 24 ounces per min.
when i put the pump back in its normal circuit the pump barely pumps, maybe 3 strokes per min.is there a relay that controls this pump? if not what is slowing this pump down?

Answer
Yes there is a relay that powers the pump and it gets it's signal from the ignition circuit to indicate when the engine is running. I'm puzzled by why it only partially works.  Typically, those work or don't work. Are you trying to pump fuel through the system into the carbs when it pumps slow or are you still catching it in a container?  If you are pumping the fuel into the carbs, look for a serious restriction in the fuel lines like a pinched hose under the tank or seat.
