Motorcycle Repair: CBX750 engine noise, hydraulic tappets, reed valves

Question
here goes!
The bike is a 1986,CBX750fe,4 cylinder,aircooled,16v,hydraulic tappets.
once the bike is at normal temperature, when the engine is returning to idle after being revved, just at approx 2000rpm,it lets a small tinkle sound from inside the engine. On idle, its as quiet as a mouse and also dead quiet at any other time.Cam chain, alternator chain and alternator chain tensioner was replaced around 42k miles. The bike now has 56 k miles.Wondering what this noise is!Think its possibly the cam chain tensioner, how do I know if it is the cam chain tensioner? Hoping and praying its not the alternator chain tensioner!
Any help greatly appreciated

Answer
Paul, Being that it appears from your question/info that you didn't change out the camchain tensioner, it is probably the culprit.

On the V-4s of that era, the rubber damper sleeve on the tensioner spring would get hard and brittle, causing the tensioner to hang up, during operation.

You can only get to it, but removing the valve cover again and slowly turning the crankshaft back and forth, watching for unexpected play in the camchain. You can also check the camchain guide to see if it has broken in half or is worn excessively. If you didn't replace the tensioner and guides, I would do so, especially at this mileage/age.

We didn't get that model in the US, so I am using:

as a reference. I see that it has a reed valve system as part of the emissions controls. You might want to use a long screwdriver or rod to home in on the noise to see exactly where it is coming from. Perhaps, the reed valves are fluttering or broken in the cylinders, if your bike has that system.

That's about all I have to share on this issue...
