Motorcycle Repair: Foork Seals, fork seals, head bolt

Question
I have a 91 fatboy and the fork seals are leaking I do all of my own work but I have never changed fork seals could you give me a step by step way to do this.? Plus the studs on the bottom of the fork that hold the cap that hold the axle on can I replace these studs or do I need to buy a new fork, If I can replace the studs how do I go about it.?

Answer
You can replace the studs. they screw in.
To replace the seals you need to remove the front wheel, caliber, and fender. remove the drain screw and drain the fork. Inside the bottom of the fork there is a allen head bolt. remove it and the fork will slide off. remove the clip for the seal and remove the seal. Now put the new seal on the fork, slide the fork lower up and install the allen head bolt. Now install the seal into the lower fork, using a fork seal installer. replace the fork oil and your good to go
Good luck and happy riding
