Motorcycle Repair: starter, hondagoldwing, header pipe

can a starter be replaced on a 1985 hondagoldwing without removing the motor

Answer
Allister, my experience is with the pre-82 Honda so I can't tell you specifically.  On the older GLs you could get the starter out but it was a job. Now because it was difficult to get to but because it was just so tight. You have to drop the exhaust header pipe on that side and remove the lower frame piece.  The motor just barely comes out and you had to hold your mouth just right to get it out.
