Motorcycle Repair: 1989 cr250, crankshaft seal, honda elsinore

Question
I just bought a 89cr250 and it fouls up the plug when ever I slow down for a minute or two why?  It also has a dead spot for the first 1/8 turn of the throttle is that a carburator problem?

Answer
Wes, are we talking oil fouling or fuel fouling? Two different conditions there....

If you put in a fresh plug and you still have the bogging problem at low end, then the carburetor is probably too rich.. high float level, pilot jet too large or the idle mixture screw out of adjustment.

If the bogging problem changes for the better, then the spark plug was fouled, which can be due to excessive oil or fuel.

If the engine is not stock, the intake and/or exhaust system was changed for "performance" parts, then the bike jetting will have to be determined as you go.

If you are getting oil fouling on the plug... check the transmission oil level. 2 strokes often have crankshaft seal failures on the transmission side, which draws in trans oil to mix with your fuel/oil premix, making it way to rich.

There are numerous websites dedicated to Honda Elsinore/CR250s.
