Motorcycle Repair: vance & Hines Straightshots slip on, stock air filter, straightshots

Question
QUESTION: I'm getting a popping sound on deceleration after installing the V&H Straightshots slip on's. I was told that with the stock air filter the fuel pak wasn't neccessary. Does the straightshots have this popping sound or does it need the fuel pak?

ANSWER: What year, model and is your bike fuel injected?

QUESTION: duh, must have been brain dead. i have a 2008 FXDC and installed the V&H Straightshots (stock A/C) and I'm getting a popping sound on deceleration and once in a while on the upshift. I was wondering if this is common for the Straightshots or if the engine is to lean. Would installing the Quiet baffles help this problem any?
The engine runs great and seems to be alive just that nasty popping on deceleration.
thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
Your popping is probably from a lean condition as well as no back pressure on the exhaust system. Installing the baffles would probably help. The only way to be sure you are not running lean is to have to exhaust anyalized to see what the air mixture is
Good luck and happy riding
