Motorcycle Repair: cam chain tenaioner, kz1300, bikebandit com

Question
Hello. This is a non-Honda question. If you do not know can you refer me to someone who may be able to help me?I Just picked up a 1982 KZ1300. Everything I have read says not to start the bike before adjusting the cam chain. I have not been able to pick up a manual yet but will soon. Can you explain how to adjust it please? I have had lots of people tell me I think this or that but I would like a proffessional to tell me.Where is the adjuster and what do I do with it? I can hear the chain rattle and it worries me. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Answer
James, I assume that you were reading what I found, which is:

http://www.kz1300.com/techarticles/z1300-cam-chain-tensioner.html

http://www.kz1300.com/techarticles/zn1300-valve-adjustment.html

If there is a defect in the chain system, you should address it right away. I don't know anything about them, other than what I have skimmed though on those sites, so I defer to those who specialize in that make and model.

Looks like they prefer the manual one, to prevent any backsliding of the self-adjuster types.

More illustrations on www.bikebandit.com or www.cmsnl.com as far as factory illustrations.

I prefer the CBX, myself...
