Motorcycle Repair: no fuel to carb...starting, petcock, fuel flow

Question
I have an 03 Sportster 1200.  Riding home it started loosing  power..stalled once.  I got it home, and the next morning it would only turn over.  Its  getting  strong spark from  the coil to both plugs. I  sprayed ether into the carb, and it  starts until the ether burns off, then dies.  I  saw no  spray shooting  from the jets.  The bike has no fuel filter that I can see.  Should I take the tank off and  check it for  sludge or foreign matter?   Looking  forward  to  your answer.

Answer
You have a vaccumn hose connected to the petcock. Make sure its attached and not pinched. You can remove the hose from the petcock and attach another hose. Suck on the hose the put a vaccumn on it. If you dont get  a fuel flow then the petcock is bad
Good luck and happy riding
