Motorcycle Repair: CA95 Honda petcock, silicon spray, benly

Question
Hi Wayne,
Have been restoring a 66 CA95 150 Benly and can't get the petcock to stop leaking even with a rebuild.   Have tried everything I can think of.  When the tank is off the bike it works as it should but when I mount it AND connect to the carb it leaks like a sieve.  Any ideas?? Thanks much

Answer
Doug,

other than bad or missing seals,
warped body or tank cracked, the
only thing might be the wrong screws.

The original screws may be JIS thread
and if someone replaced them they may
not screw in properly. Do the screws have
small sealing washers on them as well?

Inspect all the sealing surfaces,
check the rubber parts for flaws
and if it is stiff lubricate
the rubber parts with armour-all
or silicon spray.

Make sure the handle has some resistance
so it stays tight on the rubber seal.
It may have a wave spring that is too
flat. See if you can see where the leak starts.

If all else fails you may need a different
petcock or try to fit a generic replacement like these:
