Motorcycle Repair: 2002 Heritage Trik, dyno jet kit, rear pulley

Question
QUESTION: Customer complains of no power at top end with 2 people.Has had 95 inch kit with andrews 37g gear cams/adj pushrods/lifters no head work stock ignition, carb motor also stock.Bike was converted to trik with 15" rear wheels. Thinking of putting a Dynatech ign.Bike starts slow.Dont know what pullys it has.

ANSWER: Changing the ignition will not help. The cam that is in there is made for a 88CI, not a 95CI. He needs somthing like a 55g cam. Also, need to change the intake for better breathing and either install a Dyno-jet kit or change carbs to somthing like an S&S. You never said what exhsut he is running, but a good tuned exhaust will help as well
Good luck and happy riding

QUESTION: The exhaust has baffles and go all the way back, what about changing rear pulley since originally had 16" wheel and now 15". I agree with carb and intake, to change cams again I don't know he just had them done. He might not have option. The bike starts like timing is retarded. The bike runs strong to me but they are adding probably another 150lb or more.

Answer
He has to remember that adding the trik rear end will keep the bike from reving up as fast as before. Changing the rear pulley will help, but then you will be running higher RPMs at top end. I would go with the carb and intake first and see how he like it
Good luck and happy riding
