Motorcycle Repair: 1984 Goldwing Interstate front fork springs, honda oem, cycle salvage

where to start looking for front fork springs. recently took into a salvage yard to repair clunking noise in front end. mechanic on site said front fork springs need to be replaced but are no longer available. It is a two piece spring instead of one piece. please offer some kind of suggestion as to how to start looking for discontinued items like this. the front end was never taken apart was just told by the mechanic the spring needed replacement and cause the part was not available they did not open up to look at.
open to any ideas of how and where to start looking for this part and probably others like it down the road.
