Motorcycle Repair: 1974 yamaha dt100, yamaha dt100, screw out

Question
I put a new clutch cable on my cycle and now it does not seem to be as fast. From the start or top speed.I even put premium gas in it for the first time.Do you think that has something to do with it.I also had the carb out cleaning it up,maybe i clogged a jet.I am clueless Also maybe you can tell me what adjustment screw is what on carb.Theres a bigger one with a spring and a smaller one with no spring. And do you think it not having a baffle is bad for it Any help is useful Thanks                  Ian

Answer
The bigger adjustment screw with the spring is your Idle adjustment, the smaller one with no spring is your air flow mixture screw, having the baffle out is not a bad thing unless you have kept everything else bone stock. If you have a clogged jet you will experience a huge loss in power as well as the speed reduction you have mentioned. Completely disassemble the carb, buy a jet kit for it, clean everything internally and externally on the carb, reinstall all the parts on the carb including the new jets, install the carb on the bike, turn the air flow mixture screw all the way in, then turn the airflow mixture screw out 2 and 1/2 turns. You will need to adjust the Idle screw to start the bike, then adjust the Idle screw until it sounds right to you. And that should fix your problem.
