Motorcycle Repair: zx9r 1995 starting problems, yorkshire tea, head bolt

Question
hi all, my zx9r b2 is ill. i had it started this morning it was cold so i let it tick over 4 a bit, turned it off then went in 4 a cup of the good old yorkshire tea! returned to my bike around 30mins later tried to start and it was as if the battery was dying. i hooked up sum jump leads to my diesel car and it was turning over really quick and backfiring but no start. i cant think why 30 mins standing would cause this problem. please help as we are current getting some nice weather (touch wood) ive tried tweaking my idle valve and trying to start with the choke on, off and half way but still no go. hope you can help me out.... thanks in advance Danny

Answer
Okay, I'm going to walk you through a little trouble shooting here. Remove the spark plug, attach it back to the coil wire and try to start your engine with the spark plug touching a cylinder head bolt. Is there spark? if so is it a strong spark? It should be a nice thick bluish white arc. If you are not getting a good spark then check your connections to your coil, if they seem fine then your stator may not be putting out the power it should be... which can also cause your battery to drain.
