Motorcycle Repair: 2006 vstar 1100 brake light, yamaha v star 1100, brown wires

Question
I have a 2006 yamaha v star 1100 that the brake light stays on and I don't know what to do.  I've replaced the bulb with a 2 prong from the dealership.  They want me to bring it in and pay $70 bucks just to look at it.  Is there something I can do to fix it, or should I just take it in and let them handle it??  Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer
Josh,

have you checked the brake light switches?
They usually have yellow and brown wires
on them. The rear switch is near the rear
brake pedal and has a little spring on it.
Hold it and turn the nut anticlockwise
until the brake light goes out.
Make sure it comes on when you step
on the brake pedal.
If the brake light still stays on, check the
little switch near your front brake lever.
It also has yellow and brown wires.
It might be faulty. Try disconnecting the
wires connector and see if the brake light goes out.
Make sure you have the right bulb also.
It will be 12volt 21/5 Watt or 12volt 32/3 CP(candlepower)
