Motorcycle Repair: 07 Sportster 1200 XLC Fork oil servicing, pot holes, harley dealer

Question
I've read some blogs on servicing fork oil, A. is it necessary to remove to fork caps to servive the oil(to relieve spring pressure) or can I just remove the servicing screw an pump the forks up and down till all the oil is pushed out or B. do I remove the fork caps relieve the pre-load springs and pump out the oil with a vacuum pump and then service with vacuum pump and put the springs back in? also how much oil, Ive heard 9-10 oz for sportsters. Its not that its not serviced correctly but the previous owner used a lower viscosity that is causing the forks to bottom out in pot holes. Ive talked with my Harley dealer and he recommends "Screaming Eagle oil"

Answer
You can remove the drain on the forks and the fork oil will drain out on its own. Once its drained put the drain plug back in. Remove the top caps one at a time and put in 9oz of fork oil. You can use any fork oil, it doesnt have to be screaming eagle. The dealer recommends that, because its a harley product.
Good luck and happy riding
