Motorcycle Repair: oil leak, oil residue, oil tank

Question
QUESTION: I just changed my oil on my 03 Fatboy to a synthetic oil.  I had checked the
oil level before hand and it was a little low, and I ran the bike for 10 minutes
before changing it as well.  I added the 3 qts like it calls for, and checked it
again after filling it.  It was right to the level is should be but when I took it
for a ride, when I got back it was leaking on the left side of the bike, not too
much, but I had never had a leak before.

ANSWER: You will have to be a little more specific on wher the oil looks like it coming from. Top end, bottom end ETC.

QUESTION: Mike thanks for the quick response.  I beleive it is coming from the bootm of the
tank.  I did not see any oil residue on the top or the sides of the oil tank.  It
seems to have dripped down the by the belt drive, but that might be because it
leans that way when it's on the jiffy stand.

Answer
First, clean the bike and then go for a ride and see if it still leaks. If it does, then clean it again and let it dry. Spray some deoderant, that has baby powder in it, all over the area that you think its leaking. Start the bike and when it leaks the powder will turn black and you have found it
Good luck and happy riding
